I Wrote This Poem

I wrote this poem on the sandy shore
Across the space separating the sea
And industry.

I wrote this poem under the reddish yellow sky
On which black birds were flying and flocking free
And bats waved their warning shouts.

I wrote this poem on Sunday evenings
When the orange sun goes down and daylight fades
And fisherman’s boats thronged all at sea.

The others shouted calling home
And I could not deny but followed

We wrote this poem near the silence waves
That sank our bodies into photos and photos and photos
Until the machines died or our batteries ran out.

We could stay but we didn’t
We could stay but we didn’t
All the time. All the time.
